Introduction

Welcome to my first blog post. My name is Lisa Rocha. I am working on finishing the last few classes to complete my associate degree which I started over 20 years ago at UAF. Don't judge me. The life of a single parent can keep you so busy that you forget to put yourself first.  



I don't paint or draw, so I decided to share a photo of the first piece that my middle daughter painted for the Alice in Wonderland show at the City Arts Gallery in Orlando, Florida several months ago. She has this and a few more pieces on her Instagram page under the name of amber_bortz_art. I love this piece because it reminds me of the many occasions that we watched that movie together when my girls were growing up. I only wish I was more experienced at Photoshop to catch the vibrance of the colors in the original photo she sent me.

Were you able to find all of the Easter eggs she put in the painting?

    I see three items in the painting. Your daughter is very talented. Love the use of lights and darks to create a three dimensional look.

    This is so sweet that you've incorporated your daughters artwork into this assignment. I love that you have continued to persevere through acquiring a degree. I can't imagine it's easy raising children and putting aside time for yourself. But there's no time like the present. Best of luck to you and your education!

    I love your daughters artwork. She is very talented and that it has some history with the family is even better!! And no judgement here, I am in the same boat! I started my degree about 20 years ago and never finished. So I am throwing myself into it and determined to finish too. Having kids does take a lot of time especially as a single parent. Way to go to show them its never to late!! Good luck on your journey.

    Don’t feel bad that it’s taken awhile to finish school. I’m not a parent but with my husband being in the military and us moving a lot , it’s taken me longer than I’d like to finish my degree . Your daughter is very talented ! That art is beautiful!

Berry Pickers For this art analysis post, I have chosen an etching by James S. King called Berry Pickers . I purchased this framed print from a local antique/used goods store many years ago here in Fairbanks. I was drawn to it because of the tranquil scene created by the light tones near the top of the picture with the darker green of the berry bushes and grass in the foreground. I liked the soft lines used to create the curvy road they are strolling down to find the berries. Their beautiful dresses and aprons are made to look full, carefree, and feminine by using soft curved lines and tones.  While doing my research several years ago I discovered the original print, which was completed on April 8, 1892, is located in the Library of Congress.  Lisa Rocha                                      EQUESTRIAN PORTRAIT OF CHARLES I                  This portrait of Charles I is on display at the National Gallery, London. It is an oil on    canvas 367 cm x 292.1 cm. It was painted in the English countryside. The  artist is Anthony     van Dyck, c. 1637-8. The king  sits in a regal pose with a spectator holding his plumed helmet waiting     to pass it to   him.    The King was later found guilty of being a traitor, a tyrant, and a murderer by the English     Parliament.  He was subsequently executed at the age of 48 for his crimes.     I like this portrait because of the outdoor setting with the horse who is painted showing he    is ready to prance around to show off a bit for the king b...
